Bounty Hunter Quick Draw 2 Finds

Bounty Hunter Quick Draw 2 Finds

Does anyone have any experience with this detector?

I have the opportunity to get one from a local store, which is an unusual thing, as it is hard to find detectors here where I live.

And I have one other questions, as I am still fairly new to metal detecting. What does NOTCH mean?

Here is the link to the BH product page for that detector:
Products - Quick Draw II - Bounty Hunter Metal Detectors
There is a link for downloading the manual on that page as well, may help you decide.

Notch is the ability to make your MD ignore certain item you designate. If you are hunting an area with lots of a particulart trash item, you could in theory "notch" that item out from being detected.

" Notching is the elimination of an item, or range of items, within the metallic spectrum. We "notch-out" an object selectively. Objects to the left and right on the metallic spectrum are retained. Notching creates a variable rejection window. "

I have a BH SSII, there are some similarities. You will find stuff with it I'm sure, but I would hate for you to get something because it is the only thing you can find locally. You should check out the sponsors here. Lots of folks like the ACE250 as a good entry plus detector.

Best of luck!

Good Morning QR...

...please think long and hard before you buy that BH machine. Doing my best not to knock that manufacturer, but you can do so much better in your choice of detectors, and be MUCH-MUCH happier with your finds!

Beware

Set up a field in your yard where all objects have been removed and you have a clear area. Here you place items at different depths that you want to find and objects you wish to eliminate. Make yourself a map of your "target" field.
Test these with items that have simular target signals. You may find that some of the items you wish to find are eliminated along with the desireables. Such as a gold 1 dollar coin may be eliminated if you "Notch" out Zinc cents.
You may also want to make some "paint stick" checks. These are items you glue on to paint sticks so you can selectively eliminate them when you want to, and include them when when you need to.
Train yourself to evaluate the areas you like to hunt.
Different areas/hunts need different selectivity.

bounty hunter

We bought our son the bounty hunter quick draw II at a local flea market. Believe or not for $20:00 the machine works fine. But has been a source of frustration for the boy. We all have whites detectors and when we hunt we find alot more than he does. He gets tons of signal but never seems to locate the items. I would suggest that you check out the sponsors on this site for a detector. research the differrent types and prices you will find that for the same price or cheaper yopu will find a good beginner detector that you will be pleased with. Good luck :wavey:

If you're wanting to actually see the item before you buy it (as I tend to want to do) maybe you could ask the store for a demo? I took a leap of faith and ordered my Ace 250 via online. It was here within a week and I was so impatient I couldn't stand it. I tell you what, though, I am so satisfied with my purchase. I have only heard good things about this detector. I know Chuck didn't want to bash the Bounty Hunter, and I don't either, but I hear more positive from the Garrett machine.

You WILL find things with the BH, don't get me wrong. It's all in how well you know your machine, that's been proven. Whatever you end up buying, good luck to you and happy hunting. It's so much fun!! :multi:

Got the detector

The shop owner gave me a really good demo and showed me all the features of the detector, he owns one himself. He actually showed me how to use all the various features and tutored me on how it works!
Not only that, he loaned me one for 2 hours to try it out myself at the park.
I actually only used it for about 45 minutes before going back to the shop to buy one, but below is what I found in the same area I have used my other detector on.

Uh Oh

You've done it now! You're hooked for life, kiddo. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!:bthumb: :bthumb: :bthumb:

I hooked, I admit it!

My other one is good, and I will use it, but this one gives me an idea of what is under the ground. I just ordered a 4 inch coil for it and a pinpointer! And he give me a large 10 inch coil for it as well, in addition to the 8 inch coil it came with.

Guess it is accessory time!!

you got a 10" coil with it? damn lucky! next im buying the 4"& 10" as a combo. like 90$

well i havesome experience with the qd2 now and i think it works great!! i have upgraded to the 10"coil and find coins easily! nice machine but i understand as i get more knowledge ill need a better machine. maybe. i also bought one of those handhelp stick detector things from bh works nice.(lol i forget what their called now).

Does anyone know what search coils are available for the quick draw 2. Im new to detecting and not sure where to get them. Also i am an avid diver and am wondering if anyone knows a low priced starter detector for scuba diving.

dig it up

I'm sure it will work just fine for you, I use a bounty hunter 1d/505, you just gotta know what the machine is telling you...........

Yes, this is true. I use a QDII and my buddy an Ace 250. I can sweep an area he just finished and usually come up with something. Opinions of machines vary wildly. I tow a travel trailer with a Ridgeline and always have people telling me I should get a Ford or Dodge Diesel.

Coils as I was told.

There is a 10 inch, a 8 inch, and a four inch coil for bounty hunters. There is also some off market coils offered too. I also believe the the 11 inch fisher coil may fit your machine.

The coil it comes with does a good job. I just bought a used 4 inch coil for the trashy areas, its not here yet so cant say anything about it. The ten inch goes a little deeper. Not sure if its worth the price.

The same money might be better spent getting a deep hitting tesero, or garret at pro.

I use the BH for coin shooting. Its good for that. I dont need depth the ground is too hard most places anyway.

You also have multiple frequency machines, and the new Pulse Induction, or PI machines. These are more specialized for surf, or gold hunting.

Garret AT Pro is gonna give me the best hunting for both worlds. Im an leaning on a AT Pro, or a Tesero, for my deep hitters.

Hope this helps and didnt confuse you. Its how I swing. Good luck.

I usually buy my stuff used for now being new. There is always a member on TQ who will sell you working, and in good order equipment. Kellyco has the deals, but I dont need a deal, usually just something that works. There are vendors on TQ I would go through first.

Ebay is a joke. Craigs List you might get lucky. Hope this helps.

Just Recieved a 4 inch coil.

I have a old Walmart Pioneer 202, which is the same as the QD II. I spent the day with the new coil going over old spots in different types of searches.

I was surprised how small it was, but it did its job well. No great depth, but I could pull the targets out and pinpoint them dead on. It slows you down, and was really good at pulling a lot of targets I missed in the last month.

Every time it read a nickle, it was a pull tab. Everytime it read pull tab, it was a penny. I found more silver clad more than anything. It loved dimes, and they we being found at 6 inches. Played with the settings, notch seem to go deep when I ran that mode. 6" plus. I dont know how a 4' coil can go over 4' in search depth?

Most of the targets were shallow. I pulled a lot of junk targets that I dont normally find in my searches.

My settings were basically the same for the 8 inch coil. I think I will pay for my detector a lot faster now.

One place I searched was very problematic as I couldnt get a good signal with my 8 inch coil. The 4 inch coil cut through the iron in the ground and found the targets.

I was about to mount the whole system on a small rod as I couldnt go a swing without a target comming out of the ground. I have a 18 inch wooden dowel I can mount my systems on. I was on my knees digging all day.

I did try the gold backing of my wifes ear ring, it did not pick it up. If it cant recognize gold that size, it would not work for placer gold or nugget hunting. Unless someone has a suggestion. I tried every setting.

Great coil, cant wait to get the 10 inch coil for it also.

I know, Old Post!!!

I have a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202, which is the same as the BH Quick Draw II. I got the machine for a relatively cheap amount with the 8" coil. I went out and hunted with it for about 40 Hours and was terribly disappointed but, I found out that the coil was bad. A very good friend of mine here on TQ Forum sent me a 10" inch coil for this Machine for free (What a good Guy!!!). I went out only twice with the new coil for about a total of 10hrs and the difference was like night and day, I was hitting everything "Spot On" and the TID was also very correct, as to what a target was and the depth.:bthumb::bthumb::bthumb:

The BH Pioneer is my back up MD now and I have a Fisher F2 as my Primary MD, big upside, all the coils are interchangeable between the 2!!!:multi::multi::multi:

I started out my MDing Hobby with a Gold Mountain Technologies King Cobra, a very "No Frills" Machine.
I am still learning the New to me Machines and I guess my expectations were very high.

Patience, Persistence and Practicality ( Be Practical with your expectations.) are the keys to successful Metal Detecting!!!:icon_wink:icon_wink:icon_wink

Sorry to bring up and old thread, but can anyone verify for sure if an 8" concentric coil off a quick draw II will work with my f2? I have some trashy areas I'm dying to hunt and the 11" is a little tough for pinpointing/general use in these areas. Or, better yet, if anyone has any tips for using a dd coil in trashy spots, that would be excellent! Thanks guys

DBG

As for the DD when ya get even a hint of a good sound, circle the area 360 degrees and sloow down your swing and do the "ROCK THE BOAT" with your wrists. Most of the time by doing this it will allow ya to get in between the trash with the blade pattern of the DD coil. ;)

This guy works for Fisher I think?

FISHER COILS ???? (- General)

by Dave J., Friday, November 18, 2011, 04:40 (1 day, 6 hours, 58 min. ago) @ BIG SILVER CLARK

Over the last several years we've introduced a lot of new models in several different product lines. At times it has resulted in some confusion as to what's what. Knowing firsthand what dying pains feel like, I prefer the pains that come with growing.
So much for editorializing.
* * * * * * * *

The F2/F4 coil is electrically the same as the legacy BH series. But with a CB mike style connector. Nowadays. Originally it had a BH compatible DIN connector and is still available in that configuration for BH and original F2/F4 machines.
It is not electrically compatible with other Fisher or Teknetics products. It probably won't damage them but will NOT work correctly.
If someone has coils they can't figure out what's what, here's the straight skinny: get an LCR meter that tests at 1 kHz. And probe around the contacts until you find what is obviously the transmitter.
Legacy BH series: approx. 2.4 mH.
T2 only: approx. 680 uH, center tapped with some positions reading about 170 uH.
F75/F70: approx. 660 uH.
GB, GB Pro, G2, F5, Platinum, Gold, Gamma, Alpha, Omega, Delta: approx. 880 uH. Concentrics in this series are NOT specified for use on the GB, GB Pro, or G2 although in some instances they may seem to work.
If this information was useful to anyone please let me know by posting here.
